Fransmanshoek Peninsula

The Fransmanshoek Peninsula is made up of 25 plots of 9 ha each. The 5 ha head of the peninsula is managed by Eden District Municipality with 900 m of coastline. The whole peninsula is zoned as agricultural land, meaning that on each plot a maximum of two houses may be built. This leaves plenty of room for conservation on this 300 ha peninsula which has a healthy ecosystem, dominated by the Gouritz Valley Thicket vegetation type. The peninsula is surrounded mainly by rocky cliffs, but also has two small sandy bays and two small rocky bays.

Vleesbaai Resort

The peaceful Vleesbaai Resort covers a 70 ha area, of which 1.3 km’s are bordered by sandy and rocky coastline. The resort is made up of several small companies, share blocks and developments. Formerly referred to as a town, it is made up of about 500 houses, but only has about 75 permanent residents. There are still a good amount of plots standing open.
The resort also manages a 1.4 km beach stretch of coastal dune conservation land stretching towards Boggomsbaai. Vleesbaai Resort is known for its tranquil, crime-free atmosphere. In this resort one can rent houses for holidays. This is also where you will find the only shop within the conservancy and within a 20 km radius.

Boggomsbaai

The town of Boggomsbaai is made up of about 250 houses. This tiny town is clustered in the bay of Vleesbaai with 600 m of beachfront. This is where you will find the only Bed & Breakfast accommodation in the area, and Sandpiper Cottages, a chalet holiday rental group. Boggomsbaai is extremely quiet and excellent for winding down after months of hard work in the city.

Kanon and Cape Vacca

Kanon is a small 4 ha private development of 15 houses and 150 m of sandy coastline in the bay of Visbaai, with much history. This small gathering of houses was once made up of a small number of tents, where local farmers used to come for their fishing holidays. These tents turned to sea-side shacks, and slowly worked their way up to become houses. To the north of Kanon one will find the relatively undeveloped estates of Baievis and Kanon Valley. Kanon is only 2 km from the mouth of the Gouritz River.
Kanon also manages Cape Vacca Private Nature Reserve, which is made up of two sections. The first section being a 37 ha nature reserve with 2 km of rocky coastline dominated by Strandveld vegetation. At the top of the point one will find a guest house. The house’s views, proximity to the sea and isolation are hard to match anywhere in the world. The second section of the reserve is a 90 ha game area stocked with Burchell’s Zebra which is dominated by Gouritz Valley Thicket Vegetation.

Misgunst

Misgunst is an old 1 066 ha farm that has been passed down from generation to generation in the Janse van Rensburg family. The farm now concentrates on Ostrich, pigs, dairy cows and sheep and also boasts the best pork butchery in the area. The dune area of the farm has a 4 km stretch of beach.
Misgunst is also home to the well known Misgunst 4 X 4 Dune Route. The eco-friendly route winds over a 214 ha mobile dune system down to within 20 m of the beach of Visbaai. The route has been voted as the best dune route in the country by Getaway Magazine.

Kleinbos & Springerbaai Eco-estate

Kleinbos is a 17 ha development with 32 houses and 400 m of coastline. Strict building regulations have meant that the development resembles an old thatch roof white-washed Dutch-style village with houses dotted in the Fynbos.
The 257 ha development of Springerbaai has a 2.5 km long coastline and 117 plots. At the moment only 40 houses stand. Springerbaai has an additional 257 ha game area stocked with Springbok and Burchell’s Zebra. The small clusters of brown houses of Springerbaai blend in with the natural surroundings of the Fynbos.
Both of these developments are extremely ecologically friendly. No gardens, pets, overhead telephone lines, excessive paving, electricity or outside lights are allowed. In these developments the balance between man and nature has truly been found.
